Catering Edition: The Food Bride

Every bride has one special element that she feels should be the star of her wedding day. There are brides that go all out on the dress, brides that spend majority on flowers, and then there are the food brides. These brides are looking for the best and most delicious options to make a savory impact on their guests. There are many options when it comes to catering for the big day. We've broken it down into a few categories for our lovely readers.

Buffet Style

  • This option allows guests to plate their own meal. This option usually offers comfort foods and features two to three protein options for the guests to choose from accompanied by delicious sides. This allows for fast service and guests to enjoy at their own leisure.
  • Hot and cold hor d'oeuvres can also be featured in a buffet style. This option is usually served for a late evening or mid afternoon and should include two to three bite food items such as sliders or shrimp cocktails. The hor d'oeurves option works best when you have a large guest list and not enough seating for everyone. Its important to remember to chose items that do not require a knife so that your guests can easily eat while standing up, while at a bistro table if needed.
Breakfast Brunch
  • This option is for the early morning bride whose looking to wow her guests with something a little different. Brunch is a great idea for a smaller and more intimate wedding affair and allows your caterer to be creative with fun new signature ideas for breakfast and/or lunch ideas. If you choose this fun idea keep in mind you will want to serve your guests bewteen the 9:30- 11:30 A.M.
Sweet Treats Only
  • This is the perfect option for the ultimate budget bride. Schedule your ceremony between one and three in the afternoon  and have a simple "sweet treat" reception. This allows for a wide variety of personalization and beautiful display of the bride and grooms favorite items such as: cupcakes, truffles, cheesecake bites, and maybe even grandmas famous cookies. The options are endless and your guests will appreciate this fun simple idea that doesn't tie up their entire evening.

Catering Edition: The Late Night Snack

A catering craze is sweeping the bridal nation as more and more brides choose to offer late night snacks at their wedding receptions. These treats are for the newly weds who choose to party on into the night with their guests - now keep in mind not everyone at the reception will stay for the late night celebration. It will often be the younger generation with a few aunts and uncles seeking out their wild side. This is a perfect place to add a littler personalization to the wedding day! These treats should not only be tasty but a representation of the favorite things of the bride and groom and are generally served one hour prior to the newly wed send off.

The late night snacks tend to be sweet or salty treats and often of the fast food variety. These treats will serve as a little energy boost to revive the guests and keep the celebration powering on. While these snacks are simple you can still serve them in style by bringing in special vendors just for this sweet treat such as McDonalds hamburgers or Dunkin Donuts. While these are not your typical run of the mill wedding vendors they provide delicious food that will curve your guests late night wedding munchies.

Everything Flowers - Summer Edition

We mentioned in part one of the Everything Flowers blog how important it is to buy the flowers that are in season. Summer is the season of sunshine and hot days spent near the water or finding adventures with friends, so it only makes sense that summer flowers would be vibrant and bold color tones. These bright color tones match the sunny season to perfection and really make a statement.

SUMMER

  Roses
  Gerber (daises)
  Poppy
  Sunflower
 Hydrangea
  Belles of Ireland
 Dahila
 Lisianthus
 Mums

 various tropical flowers

Summer is the season of bright and bold colors. When designing the summer bridal bouquet of your dreams keep in mind that you will be wanting vibrant yellows, pinks, reds, and greens. Another idea to keep in mind is to ask your florist about "filler flowers" that are in season. These "filler flowers" help add volume to bouquets and floral arrangements without adding cost.

Cole Dewey Designs

Cole Dewey is one of Oklahoma’s talented florists. We love this florist because she brings so much heart to the table when meeting with brides. She said was destined to become a florist after spending countless hours helping her mother in her own florist shop when she was growing up.

“I knew instantly that this is what I wanted to do,” said owner and designer Cole Dewey.

Cole has only been in business for a few short years but has already made a name for herself in the florist industry by working fifty to sixty weddings per year. Her excellent service and the ability to cater specifically to the clients wants and needs has helped her establish herself in this business. She also brings a unique approach to all her floral designs.

“I’m known for having a texture-garden look, for using an interesting mix of flowers," says Cole, "I'm also known for my level of service. I meet with every client and design everything. When they email or call it comes straight to me, they are getting first hand service."

She has a flawless reputation, passion and well defined sense of style really helps her connect with today's bride.

Cole's store is currently located downtown Oklahoma City and she share's her space with a local boutique. She plans to move into a new space soon that will support her business as it continues to grow.

Everything Flowers- Spring Edition

Flowers are an essential part of every wedding. While it’s possible to get any flower your heart desires at any time throughout the year it may not be what’s best for your budget or your color scheme. Each season has a specific color tone, for example with a spring wedding you will want to design using soft pastel colors.  To ensure you are getting the most ‘bang for your buck’ stick with the flowers that are in season. To help all of our lovely readers out we have broken it down to seasonal flowers and their color pallets.

SPRING

·      Roses
·      Tulips
·      Peonies
·      Calla Lilies
·      Irises
·      Daffodils
·      Hydrangea
·      Lily of the Valley
·      Sweet Pea
·      Hyacinths

Spring is the season of pastels. When planning the bridal bouquet of your dreams keep in mind that you will be wanting soft pinks and blues and peach pastel colors. Another idea to keep in mind is to ask your florist about "filler flowers" that are in season. These "filler flowers" help add volume to bouquets and floral arrangements without adding cost.

Featured below are a few examples of our favorite spring floral arrangements.
